This donation adds to the follow up activities of an agreement signed between PROFEPA and WWF through its TRAFFIC Program, so as to support Mexican authorities on environmental matters and contribute to the sustainable use of natural resources and the fight wildlife trade.

Leather protective gloves, animal transportation boxes, snake hooks and many other tools for a safe handling of specimens were included among the items handed to PROFEPA.

This donation, aimed at strengthening the Seaports, Airports and Borders inspectoriates in Mexico is part of a $300,000 USD 3 year long TRAFFIC lead Project, supported by the Strategic Programs Fund of the UK, which includes the development of capacity building materials and implementation of training workshops all over the country.

Among the main objectives of TRAFFIC’s collaboration with PROFEPA is to contribute to an improved implementation of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES), to which Mexico adhered to in 1991, through the strengthening of capacities of government officials responsible to tackle the illegal trade of species, in particular those belonging to the Seaports, Airports and Borders Program of this institution.
